Default 2006 2.3 duratec manual transmission swap

ok guys i have googled this thing to death and even searched on this forum and cant really find a answer on these "newer" rangers with the 2.3..

now i know i need a M5R1 and i also know the duratec bellhousing is unique to itself so no using a lima 5speed..

now my question is will i have to swap the ECU with one that is specific for a manual trans or will my automatic one be ok, ive played around quite a bit with older cars but nothing this new lol..

if it means anything this is a old fleet truck so no PATS to worry about..

any answers would be really appreciated thanks

Youll need to swap the ECU. Also, the new ECU will have PATS most likely so you will still have to worry about it.

2005 and 2006 Ranger 2.3L are not supposed to have PATS, at least according the to the pats_job_aid.pdf that used to be on Ford's Motorcraft website.

It might work as is and throw a code, or you might be able to reflash that ECU with the manual trans strategy, or you need to find a manual trans ecu. I found one on ebay cheap awhile ago. From my notes, look for

2006 Ranger 2.3L
p/n begins with 6L5A-
4-digit teartag (sticker on ECU connector)
XNV0 (M/T)
THK0 (A/T)
HEJ0 (A/T)
FNG0 (probably M/T, not confirmed)

And for reference, from an old version of Ford's Latest_calbration.xls (was found on motorcraftservice.com), these are the only available flashes for a 2006 Duratec Ranger

I looked it up at work, and this seems correct. I had no idea. 2005 rangers had no pats on any engine, and 2006 had PATS, but v6 only.

Yea, it makes for much easier swaps w/o going standalone.
