Default How fast will the GT go with stock 2.3 dtec?

Until the GT gets the beast engine back in her I'll be beating on the stock one to see what it has (as safley as can be).

So the details, the stock '08 2.3 duratec in my GT with my current setup and turbo (the holset). So far in just some getting the feel of the truck I can tell you this It does in fact hit 16psi before 4000rpm. To be fair I will say that I'm not going beyond that for boost but it won't be lower than 9 psi either. The goal is to maximize the combination (even though none of this was meant for a stock engine) to get the fastest time possible with a safe tune. Tremec tko 600 faceplated and 5:14 gears, if you need more facts before you vote ask. Also this is a purpose built truck, don't foget that.

I know what I think it'll do but I don't want to influence votes. So what do think it'll do?

Engine is completely bone stock internally '08 ranger 2.3 including oil pan. The only mod if a CFM underdrive crank pulley (for clearance issues)

10.97 with standard 10mm arp 8740 head studs (and likely the only one) 11/11/12

how high will you rev it? and that is a 60mm hx40 right? whats your first gear like, 2.95 or 2.76(or whatever the tko600 comes with)? and your tires are 30" or 29" tall?

also, are we guessing on the first pass, or the best you'll get too with multiple passes?

The stock engine na redlines at 6000rpm and struggles above 5500rpm in the higher gears but with this getting a little help from the turbo I'm not sure what it'll pull till but I will say I won't go beyond 7000rpm but I'm thinking a little lower, I may just stay safe at 6000rpm. Yes turbo is a 60mm hx40 with .82 ar garrett t3 turbine housing. The TKO 600 has a 2.87 first gear. My rear tires, I have MT sportman pros 12.5 x 29" that I think will likely work really good with the stock engine but if I find I need to, I'll put the 12.5 x 30" MT ET streets on. The guess is for the best I can get with it after tuning and several runs of experience in getting it down the track. Basically till the beast engine goes in.

This is also all just for fun if you want to make a more accurate guess than the poll then post what you think as well as vote.

That's a good question. I scaled the truck with some 4 corner roundy round scales from a friend and I told him his scales were worng lol. According to the results (and I did this a least 5-6 times, double, triple checked everything). the truck was just over 3000 lbs with out fluids in it (oil, water, intercooler, gas) plus me at 220lbs so that's about 3400lbs and my truck weighed less than that with the 351 (3300) when I scaled it years ago. So something wrong because there is no way my truck is heavier now. I was figuring it was 3000lbs with me but I'll have to wait to try another set of scales.

Its funny how you canadians use Pounds and 1/4Mile and not Kilos and kilometers. I am gonna guess you should do around a 13.5. I wonder if just using a HX40 hotside with a shim that blocks off one side would net more useable powerband. I've seen guys blocking off one side of big diesel turbos on V8s that have trouble spinning them in regular trim. Can't wait and hope you take a video of the first 2.3 dura pass.

jfive, hes using a T3 style .82A/R exhaust housing, not the holset housing. so it spools fairly quick for its size, as ranger said.

i believe faster than 13's. its got 5.14 gears, it will make around 300hp or more with the flow of the head and the turbo with a 4" exhaust and a custom intake manifold with air to water IC. and it should have excellent traction. although, if the redline is 7000rpm, it can only get to 117mph in the qtr. before needing to shift to 5th. at that speed, you can get as quick as 11.60's. i believe that you cant get beat by a new mustang 5.0 and they run 12.6's in the qtr with traction and 3700lbs.

my guess is 12.40. this will be at a redline of about 6500rpm in 4th at about 109mph.

you will be rowing gears quickly, thats definite. 1st is over at less than 40mph by 7K.

I caught that ron. I was meant that I wonder if the Holset T4 with a block off for the one side would perform about the same as switching to a smaller T3 housing. I figure he would eventually want to use a T4 hotside when he outgrows the T3. Then he could just unbolt and put on a bigger T4 turbo. I guess I am still clueless to what turbo he is gonna use in the end. As he knows. LOL
