Default quick t5 quetion

so i was looking under my truck this weekend when i lost a socket. Notice the fancy square tube "trans mount" the previous owner created... Was looking at a ricks rangers mount. Is there a reason why a none OEM mount would be used for a 2.3t/t5 swap? I thought it bolted up to the stock trans cross member. Am I missing something here?
