been thinkn about it... ive got another ranger, 99 4.0 5speed 4x4 loaded... the 4.0 is a decent motor, but I can have a lot of good motors that get 14+ mpg. a local yard has an old Mercedes 300D. if the car is still sitting there in the spring. ill be going to pull the 5 cylinder turbo diesel out to put in my other truck. the hardest part is going to find the bell housing adapter that will work with my stock trans.... anyone know where I can find one?

I don't have a clue but I'm jealous. I've thought a lot about this swap but can't find any engines. Good luck!

you might get lucky and find an adapter to ford v8, then you can run the F150 trans. Good luck...

There is a guy that did this swap and made a bellhousing to adapt to a TK5 I believe. I'd personally look into doing a 1.9L TDI VW swap myself.

I've been trying to repair/replace my wife's TDI in her '02 Jetta for the last month and I'm about fed up with it. I've decided I will never buy another vehicle with an interference engine that uses a timing belt. Either put a chain on it or don't make it interference! Once it's back together I'll let her put another 60 or 70k and we're getting rid of it. Don't get me wrong, it's an okay car to drive and gets great mileage but working on it freakin' sucks. If you plan to be in the TDI game, plan on being in it for a while with all the expensive special tools you have to buy.

Sorry, I just had to vent.

http://www.transmissionadapters.com/...s%20diesel.htm

here ya go Ryan. They have them for SBF (you have to scroll down a smidge) then you can use the 4.2V6 4x4 trans. Those are tough to find though. That is the biggest reason my 4x4 isnt 5.0 right now. I couldnt find a cheap trans, so I stuck with the 2.3 and now that I changed some things, Im glad I did.

You can have a custom adapter made for the R1 transmission or go to Mercedes 4x4 adapters for one built for the R2 transmissions. If you are going the R2 route you will need one from a late 90s F150 with the 4.2L. As said above the aftermarket adapters that are out there for the OM617 to ford transmission are mostly for the SBF bolt pattern.
